Honestly, I thought your review was better than the music. For me the standout track is Uptown Disco followed by MOROWORE and then Knockout. MOROWORE is particularly memorable because it attempts some lyrical depth. I really get the production quality being supreme and like you said Olamide loves to sing and he sang his heart out in the short span of 22 minutes and for that I am grateful. Still will I listen to this repeatedly in the same order it was given? I hold my comments. Thank you again for this review, it offered a lot perspective that made the listening experience richer. I am still with you about your comments on a stale Afrobeats summer
Again, thank you for engaging. I feel that Olamide has come to a point where if he invests further in lyrical depth, he would need a different genre. Afrobeats cant hardly withstand musing on the human condition, confronting the trauma of penury, of exploring the exploitative nature of poverty. In fact the genre is a shield from all of that, an assured distraction/deflection from it. On Morowore, it felt like he was depositing all that to a higher order and the rituals of thanksgiving, ceding to an authority are perhaps things he only knows too well. I suppose what is fresh in this music is the production, the hints of Japanese influences and so forth. Like you, I was skeptical on first listen, by second listen, it felt warmer and then by the third, I wanted to write a review. Regarding Afrobeats summer this year, we ought to send tubs of zobo-infused ice-cream to Ayra Starr.
✅✅ Yes to Afrobeats as the genre of distractions! It is a lot though to carry the weight of distracting Nigerians so evolution is paramount? Even Arya, no ice cream imo 😂
A perfect morsel of a review! Thank you, off to listening 🎶
